In the News: Brain Injury and Football

Jul 27 2017

A study in the medical journal JAMA published this week confirmed concerns that a career in football can contribute to a neurodegenerative disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy, also known as CTE.  The study found CTE in 99 percent of deceased NFL players’ brains that were donated to scientific research.

MossRehab clinical neuropsychologist Madeline DiPasquale, PhD, explained the importance of the study for the Einstein Science Center on CBS3.

"This is not about one concussion or two concussions. This is about repeated exposures, thousands and thousands and thousands of hit over the course of a career, that can potentially lead to chronic traumatic encephalopathy," DiPasquale noted.
