The Lifetime Follow-up Clinic
MossRehab’s commitment to the treatment of spinal cord injuries doesn’t end when a patient is discharged. The same level of expert rehabilitative care is available to patients on an outpatient basis, or delivered at home when necessary. This is possible through the MossRehab Lifetime Follow-up Clinic, a unique feature of the Spinal Cord Injury Program.
The goal of the clinic is to stay involved with patient's spinal cord care on a long term basis. We work to identify medical issues before they become major problems, helping patients avoid re-hospitalization for skin breakdown and other conditions that develop due to limited mobility. The clinic’s continued involvement can also allow patients to take advantage of more recent advancements, such as devices like ReWalk and ArmeoPower.
The Lifetime Follow-up Clinic at MossRehab works with the patient, the family, the primary care doctor and the patient’s insurance carrier to determine the most effective long-term spinal cord injury care program. Once a patient is discharged, our outpatient spinal cord rehabilitation team meets with patients at one-month, six-month and then annual intervals for follow-up. The follow-up team can include physiatrists, rehabilitation nurses, social workers, physical and occupational therapists and speech language pathologists.
Long Term Spinal Care Means More than Physical Wellness
Patients are also encouraged to attend our peer support groups to share experiences and receive valuable encouragement. Continued support is also available for family members to help cope with the life changes that may occur when a loved one experiences a spinal cord injury.
