The Responsiveness Program

The Responsiveness Program was developed to meet the needs of patients whose injuries are so severe that they cannot participate in, or benefit as much from, traditional therapies that are aimed at improving activities like walking and talking.

Program Focus

Patients with severe injuries have a limited ability to respond to stimulation like noise and visual cues. It is often difficult to detect that they are responding. But if they are in some way, these responses can be used to develop a means of communicating with the patient.

Demonstrating responsiveness is also an important finding regarding the potential for further recovery. Patients with severe injuries have medical and neurological complications rather specific to this population. Therefore, having a specialized program with staff that are familiar with meeting the rehabilitation and medical needs for this population is beneficial.

Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation has been at the forefront of advocating for such programs, designing assessments and examining various interventions to improve outcomes for this challenging group of patients with TBI.
