On Father’s Day in Wildwood Crest, N.J., 60 MossRehab therapists, doctors, nurses and supporters took part in They Will Surf Again, a free one-day event that gets people with spinal cord injuries into the ocean and riding the waves on specially adapted surfboards.

Two of the boards, featuring inspirational graphics, were MossRehab-sponsored, made possible through donations from Generic Surfboards, Headline Graphics, and Kerry and Adriana O’Connor. Sixty surfers took to the waves.

They Will Surf Again is the flagship program of Life Rolls On, a nonprofit that serves as a resource and advocate for young people who have been affected by spinal cord injury. Life Rolls On utilizes action sports to push the boundaries of possibility for those with spinal cord injuries.

To date, MossRehab has sent more than 250 volunteers to the event. Volunteers helped people with disabilities maneuver up and down the beach using special adaptive wheelchairs, get into and out of wetsuits, and assisted surfers in the water as they rode the waves.
