CNN Money has recently reported that Apple is proposing disability emojis to the the Unicode Consortium - the nonprofit organization that sets the global standard for emojis. The list of 13 emojis include a service dog, prosthetic leg, hearing aid and a person in a wheelchair.
The following is a statement in support of the new emojis by MossRehab:
"Apple keeps ahead on technology, but more importantly, it is a company with an inclusive social conscience," said Alberto Esquenazi, MD, chief medical officer of MossRehab. " Their recent proposal to add emojis that represent persons with disabilities is a clear indication of this. They have proposed a prosthetic leg, a hearing aid, a wheelchair user and a service dog among them. I expect that, if accepted, more will follow. To see a more inclusive world further recognizes that we may look different from each other but can, and should, be treated equally. MossRehab supports fully this proposal."
