Presentation overview:
This is a two day introductory level course that will instruct physical therapists and athletic trainers on how to evaluate and treat patients with acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain. Research has shown the benefit of sub classification of patients with low back pain utilizing treatment based classification systems. This course will review medical screening, outcomes measures, the evolution of the treatment based classification systems and their limitations, the use of regional interdependence, and therapeutic neuroscience approach to treatment of low back pain. Through lecture and lab, participants will learn to apply the current literature on low back pain through examination, exercise, and manual therapy interventions. 

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the course participants should be able to:
1. Discuss the evolution of the treatment based classification system for low back pain.
2. Identify appropriate screening tools for non-musculoskeletal low back pain to help determine need for referral.
3. List (2) common pelvic girdle dysfunctions and describe the examination techniques for each.
4. Describe and explain the interrelationship between pelvic girdle dysfunction and lumbar dysfunction.
5. Describe how central sensitization can contribute to chronic low back pain.
6. Demonstrate competent psychomotor performance of three mobilization techniques.

Requirement for successful course completion: Satisfactory completion of the continuing education units consists of full attendance with monitored sign in and sign out forms and completion of a course feedback form and post-test that includes self assessment of learning outcomes.

Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy and New Jersey State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners: This program has been submitted to Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy and New Jersey State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for 11.75 contact hours.

MossRehab (BOC AP#P10044) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs). This program is eligible for a maximum of 11.75 Evidence Based Practice Category hours/CEUs. Athletic Trainers should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be submitted to the MossRehab in writing. Please explain the circumstances of the cancellation in a fax or e-mail to ensure a timely response. Requests received 3 days or 72 hours prior to course start will result in a full refund. Re-quests received less than 3 days (72 hours) prior to the course start will result in a non-refundable administration processing fee of $50.00 or 50% of registration cost (whichever is less). No shows or cancellations within 24 hours of the course start will be ineligible for a refund. MossRehab will reimburse you the cost of the registration, if we have to cancel a course due to low enrollment, weather, or an emergency situation. We are not responsible for any other costs associated with attending a conference. If you are on the waiting list of a course and do not get in, we will not charge your credit card; if you paid by check we will send the check back to you. In the event that a course is rescheduled we will provide you the option of applying the tuition towards the rescheduled course in lieu of a full refund.

Requirement for Successful Course Completion: Monitored sign-in/sign-out sheets and participation in a process to assess achievement of course learning objectives including completion of a course evaluation form is required for successful completion of the course.
