Our Approach to Spine Care

>

An injury to the spinal cord is always disruptive - drastically altering a person’s life and daily routines. But that diagnosis doesn’t have to affect individuality and purpose. The team of specialists at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation can help empower patients to rebound from injury and return to an active life.

The Jefferson Spinal Cord Injury Program is structured to move hand-in-hand with people following traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord injuries. Our clinics help patients achieve independence and lead productive and rewarding lives.

To do this, every patient is treated on an individual basis. Spinal cord injuries can affect more than just bodily movements. They can impact breathing, bowel or bladder control and sexual function. We take the full clinical presentation into consideration — assessing a person’s life stage, occupation, personal relationships and living arrangements — before building a complete, individually designed treatment course that is continually monitored and adjusted.

More About Our Program & SCI Rehab Center

Our spinal cord injury rehab program begins by introducing the use of technology, to allow common daily activities to become familiar once again. Both living space and work space are modified when they need to be made more accessible and stress-free. Family members are trained to provide assistance if needed. Vocational counseling can be incorporated to help patients return to work, to school or to pursue new occupations as soon as possible.

Each year, Jefferson treats over 800 people at our spinal cord injury rehab centers, ranging from those who were recently injured to those who have returned to the community and need continued care. We pride ourselves on being able to send more inpatients home to their families than the national average for spinal cord injury facilities, even though our patients typically face more complex recoveries. Over 80 percent of our patients give us the highest ratings for patient satisfaction. Our SCI rehab centers boast the largest collection of robotics in the U.S., along with a dedication to clinical excellence that has kept us ranked among the top 10 in the national by US News & World Report.

Within our services for patients with spinal cord injuries, Jefferson offers a Weekly Support Group and Peer Mentoring Program offered during both inpatient and outpatient programming. These additional services help individuals cope with the various forms of stress that can often result from living with a spinal cord injury.

We know that a patient’s commitment to living a full life will never fade, and for that reason, neither will the commitment of the specialists at Jefferson.
