Ken Levitan Appointed Interim President and CEO for Einstein Healthcare Network

Jan 04 2021

Ken Levitan has been appointed Interim President and Chief Executive Officer for Einstein Healthcare Network (which includes MossRehab) with the retirement of Barry R. Freedman who served as Einstein’s President and CEO for 18 years.

Levitan has been part of the Einstein network for more than 13 years, most recently serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer where he leads the organization’s Incident Command Center during the COVID-19 pandemic. As Executive V.P. and Chief Administrative Officer he worked with senior leaders and the Board of Trustees to explore initiatives to help Einstein expand its geographic reach, improve accessibility of care, and develop strategic partnerships and alliances. In addition, Levitan had oversight for several Einstein departments, including Human Resources, Information Services, Strategy and Planning, Performance Improvement, and Government/Community Relations.

“Ken has proven himself to be an extremely effective leader and the stellar job he is doing spearheading the Incident Command Center to combat the coronavirus validates that he is the right person to step into this position,” says Lawrence S. Reichlin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Overseers for Einstein Healthcare Network. “In leading this effort, he has demonstrated his ability to work proficiently with dozens of clinical and administrative leaders and frontline providers to quickly respond to continually changing information and events during this public health crisis,” adds Reichlin.

Prior to his role as Chief Administrative Officer, Levitan was Chief Information Officer where he led the transformation of Einstein’s use of information technology including the development and implementation of a network-wide electronic medical record system. He also saw the successful deployment of over $25 million of IT equipment and software to support the opening of Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in East Norriton, Pa. His background also includes working at Ernst & Young where he was an Executive Director leading the Healthcare Provider Information Technology practice.

Einstein has been part of Levitan’s family for a long time, with his late father Mark Levitan, having served as Einstein’s Chief Executive Officer in the 1980s. Levitan and his wife have two adult children and reside in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia.
