To the MossRehab Community

Jun 03 2020

The tragic, needless deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor – as well as too many other African Americans – have inflamed deep-rooted racial tensions around the country and right here in Philadelphia.

Despite decades of efforts, substantive progress remains elusive. Many feel enormous pain today. Some have taken to the streets, including in neighborhoods around our Philadelphia campus. We pray for the loved ones of those senselessly killed, and we embrace our fellow colleagues who may feel angered, frustrated, exhausted or even unsafe. We are with you, firm and resolute, as an Einstein family.

Einstein stands with our community against racism and injustice. During these last several days, we have repeatedly looked to our mission as a guide.

Those we reach every day are among the most vulnerable in our city. As they continue to rely on us, we will fulfill our mission and help them heal physically as well as emotionally. It is who we are and what we always do.

Throughout our institution, we are working diligently to determine the best path forward. We are also reaching out to civic and political leaders, faith-based organizations and many others. Our goals are to be part of this important dialogue and to help in the healing where we can. In the words of Albert Einstein: "Striving for social justice is the most valuable thing to do in life."

Our nation, our city and our Einstein community are all in mourning today, though we are not defeated. As we have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we will persevere together. That’s also what we do.

We will continue to communicate with you on these important issues.
