Course Description:

This introductory/intermediate level course provides an overview of evidence-based examination, differential diagnosis, and treatment of shoulder impairments.  There will be an emphasis on classifying patients in accordance with the World Health Organization’s international Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF). Current conservative, surgical, and post-surgical interventions will be discussed for each of the shoulder impairment classifications.  The material will be presented in a lecture and lab format so that participants will learn underlying knowledge, concepts, and treatment approaches and will have an opportunity to practice the skills of evidence-based examination techniques and treatment interventions in a supervised setting. 

Target Audience: Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants

Course Learning Objectives:  At the conclusion of this learning activity the participants should be able to

  1. Describe the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and how to apply the framework to measure health and disability in the orthopedic shoulder populations.
  2. Demonstrate examination techniques for patients with shoulder injuries
  3. Describe the clinical decision to rule in/out the diagnosis, differentially diagnose and screen for medical complications that may present as shoulder pain.
  4. Select interventions for patients with shoulder injuries for each of the described impairment classifications to appropriately incorporate them into practice.

Application has been made to:

-Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy for 11.5 Contact Hours (1.15 CEUs) and 1 Direct Access hours

-NJ State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for 11.5 contact hours

-New York State Education Department:  MossRehab is an approved provider of continuing education credits for the New York State Board of Physical Therapy.

Requirement for successful course completion: Satisfactory completion of the continuing education units consists of full attendance with monitored sign in and sign out forms and completion of a course feedback form that includes self assessment of learning outcomes.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be submitted to the MossRehab in writing. Please explain the circumstances of the cancellation in a fax or e-mail to ensure a timely response. For cancellations from 2 to 7 days prior to the course, there is a 50% non-refundable administrative processing fee.  For no shows or cancellations within one day of the course, there are no refunds. MossRehab will reimburse you the cost of the registration, if we have to cancel a course due to low enrollment, weather, or an emergency situation.  We are not responsible for any other costs associated with attending a conference. If you are on the waiting list of a course and do not get in, we will not charge your credit card; if you paid by check we will send the check back to you. In the event that a course is rescheduled we will provide you the option of applying the tuition towards the rescheduled course in lieu of a full refund.
