Has COVID-19 changed the way you visit with your doctors? As the pandemic puts restrictions on office visits, you may have met with your health care providers one time or another through the computer or on the phone. Even without the restrictions posed by the pandemic, many patients seeking rehab for brain injury have transportation and financial challenges that limit their access to in-person treatment. For patients like these, telerehab might be the answer.
Amanda Rabinowitz, PhD, institute scientist at Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) and director of the Brain Injury Neuropsychology Laboratory, is conducting a pilot demonstration study in partnership with the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania and other local rehabilitation providers to determine the value of telehealth in cognitive rehabilitation for persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The research will evaluate if telehealth is more effective and efficient than solely in-person therapy services for these patients. Remote treatments for individuals in their homes could reduce missed appointments, increase access to services, and allow therapists to reach clients in remote locations.
