From painting and photography to sculpture and needlepoint, works by 60 artists from across the nation were widely acclaimed by visitors to the 37th annual All About Art at MossRehab Exhibition.
“All About Art at MossRehab celebrates the strength, innovation and spirit of artists with physical disabilities. It represents their determination to triumph over physical adversity and their refusal to give up. The quality of their work, its freshness and range of expression speak to their success,” says Julie Hensler Cullen, RN, MSN, director of education and quality.
This year’s exhibition ran from Sept. 22 through Nov. 4 and featured more than 200 pieces of sculpture, two-dimensional creations, oils, pastels, photographs, jewelry and more. Many of the artists are professionals who work full time in the arts. Others pursue the visual arts as an avocation. All have refused to let life’s challenges silence their creative voice.
Some of the exhibition’s work also enters the Susan S. Beneman Permanent Collection at MossRehab through the generosity of patrons, contributions by artists and from direct purchases by either the hospital or members of the medical staff. The collection features more than 240 works from artists from nearly every state
in our country as well as from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
“All About Art is a celebration of creativity and we are proud to make this event possible,” says Hensler Cullen.
Portrait of a Sculptor
Legally blind for more than 30 years due to macular degeneration, Betsy Clayton found a creative outlet in working with clay. “I like to do children and mother- and-child pieces,” she says. Among her works exhibited this year at All About Art included her wire and bead sculpture of a fashion model, a ceramic sculpture of an elf and a ceramic sculpture of two babies playing.

While pain from degenerative disk disease has been Gerard “Jerry” Di Falco’s constant companion for 35 years, he has channeled that challenge into creating prints, paintings and mixed media assemblages that have been shown around the world. “I’m always thinking of how these changes in my body have contributed to my art,” he says. His five-paneled view of Milan, Italy was among three of his works exhibited at All About Art.
