The Spinal Cord Injury(SCI) Department at MossRehab has created a free, online video series called “Living with a Spinal Cord Injury” to help individuals with SCI and their caregivers learn to not only adapt, but to thrive, when faced with the daily challenges of living with a SCI. The videos (10 in all) cover such topics as proper skin care, bladder and bowel care, breathing, intimacy, and emotional health by showing persons with SCI and their caregivers in their homes and usual settings dealing with the types of situations they encounter. The video series was made possible through a generous grant from the family of former SCI patient, the late David Loeb who for more than sixty years, proved that a spinal cord injury did not mean a life of limitations.

“It is often only through exposure to the experiences of others that newly injured individuals begin to realize that they are not alone,” explains Marni Nutkowitz, PsyD, SCI Neuropsychologist at MossRehab. “And that living a productive life after SCI is within their reach. As with any traumatic event, to be able to relate to someone who has successfully navigated their way through it is invaluable.”

To celebrate the completion of the video series, MossRehab is hosted a sneak-peak, Hollywood-style screening, complete with a red carpet, big screen and classic movie snacks like popcorn, candy bars and pretzel nuggets for the members of the Spinal Cord Injury Department and the individuals making their “film debuts” in the videos at the MossRehab Elkins Park campus on Tuesday, April 30.
