When someone suffers an injury to the brain or spinal cord – for example from a car crash, fall, explosion, or from internal causes such as with stroke - neurological problems can occur. This may result in the loss of motor function, such as coordination, the ability to walk, move one’s arms, or in some cases speak. Helping patients recover these abilities is led by physicians who specialize in the field of physical medicine & rehabilitation (also called physiatry).

The Human Motor Recovery Laboratory at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) (both of which are led by Dylan Edwards, PhD) is dedicated to advancing this area by blending cutting-edge research techniques with conventional rehabilitation therapies to help patients recover more of what was lost faster, while making it a more engaging and enjoyable experience.
