Occupational Therapy

Whether they’re recovering from a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, hand injury or relearning basic activities of daily living (ADLs) following a stroke, MossRehab patients focus on moving toward independence with our up-to-the-minute approach to occupational therapy.

MossRehab is now offering online scheduling for occupational therapy at two locations -  Center City and Collegeville. Use the button below to find and schedule an appointment. (Initial appointments only, please.)

The Difference Between Physical and Occupational Therapy

  • Physical therapy uses specially designed exercises and equipment to help patients regain or improve their  physical abilities. PT addresses strengthening, ambulation [walking], stretching, going up and down stairs, and activities such as getting in and out of bed and getting in and out of a car. Some examples of instances where a patient may require physical therapy are for chronic pain in a localized area such as the lower back or pelvic floor, or following a rotator cuff injury—to name a few. • Occupational therapy focuses on Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and functional goals. These ADLs include - among other things - eating, bathing, dressing, walking, using the toilet and continence. Occupational therapy is an option for patients who have dealt with a stroke or concussion, or for patients who have vestibular difficulties with maintaining balance and equilibrium. Occupational therapy can also help people who have had hand injuries or other injuries that impede motor skills.

A Personalized Approach to Occupational Therapy

Physical therapy and occupational therapy are a core part of the rehabilitation process at MossRehab for both inpatients and outpatients. Many people in need of PT or OT are angry, depressed or in denial about their condition. At MossRehab, we work to earn their trust and help them relearn skills lost due to an accident or illness with the goal of helping each patient regain his or her independence.

We take a personalized approach to PT and OT, caring for patients as individual and discussing their unique needs.

  • For inpatients: Our OTs, PTs, and recreational therapists are in constant discussions on a daily basis. They meet together and with each patient’s doctor, social worker, nurse, and psychologist to discuss each case, progress made that week, and changes to expect to create a plan for discharge and re-entry.
  • For outpatients: Our highly trained PTs work closely with OTs, speech pathologists, neuropsychologists and physiatrists - doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation - to help patients regain their strength and skills. Along with standard physical therapy equipment, we offer a wide range of advanced robotics.
