MossRehab's Eastern Regional Center for Adults with Spina Bifida, a designated center by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, is one of the nation’s first centers for adults with this disability.

At the Center, MossRehab helps adolescents make the transition into adulthood by helping them reach their optimum level of functioning at home, in school and in the community.  We prepare families to support their children and plan for future needs. We also offer assistance in understanding the issues critical to adults with a disability.  Additionally, we serve as a resource for community physicians and clinicians to help treat their adult patients with spina bifida.

As children with spina bifida grow into adulthood, they come across new problems and have new needs that are no longer met by pediatric programs. We work in partnership with primary care physicians to address medical, functional and special needs. Examples include:

• Neurogenic bowel, neurogenic bladder, scoliosis, hydrocephalus, ventriculoperitoneal shunts, tethered cord syndrome, pressure sores and other medical needs
• Mobility, self-care, safety and other functional needs
• Psychosocial and sexuality counseling, educational and vocational planning, leisure education and other special needs of adolescents and adults
