Pelvic Floor Therapy

Millions of people of every gender experience some type of incontinence (urinary and fecal) or pelvic pain in their lives. Unfortunately, it is not openly discussed because of the embarrassment and sensitivity associated with the topic and anatomy. As a result, many people suffer in silence while a majority of symptoms are treatable through therapy.

What is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction?

Individuals suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction have problems with how their pelvic floor muscles function, resulting in urinary issues, pain, constipation, and discomfort during intercourse. Causes can include pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, obesity, genetics, trauma to the pelvis, postural issues, and pelvic surgeries such as prostatectomies, hysterectomies, or gender-affirming surgery.

What is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Pelvic floor therapy can help all genders address their concerns and find relief from many associated symptoms so individuals can return to normal daily activities. A specialized form of physical and occupational therapy, pelvic floor therapy can provide a safe and structured rehabilitation of the pelvic floor muscles. Focusing on improving the function of the muscles, nerves and connective tissue that support the pelvic organ, this safe, conservative and non-invasive treatment can help address pain and various bladder, bowel and sexual problems to prevent more issues and improve quality of life.
