MossRehab offers a personalized and comprehensive approach to spinal cord injury rehabilitation through our system of inpatient, outpatient, day hospital, day therapy and life-time follow up programs. We treat patients at various levels and severity of spinal cord injury and dysfunction.
As part of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network we are able to expertly treat the most complex patients with immediate on-site access to our Level I Trauma Team and medical and surgical consultants. We care for patients who have sustained a spinal cord injury as the result of the following conditions:
- Traumatic spinal cord compression secondary to a motor vehicle accident, falls, diving injury or gun shot wound
- Non-traumatic spinal cord dysfunction which may be secondary to:
- Cervical or lumbar stenosis
- Multiple sclerosis
- Spinal cord stroke
- Transverse myelitis
- Spinal sarcoid
- Spinal abcess
- Spinal tumor
- Spinal cord infarct
- Arteriovenous malformation
- Guillian-Barre syndrome
- Cauda equina syndrome
Program Features
Medical, nursing and therapy treatment plans are individualized and use evidence-based teaching strategies. We focus on activities of daily living, improved mobility and use of adaptive equipment helping to make patient’s homes and workplaces more accessible. We also provide vocational counseling that enables them to return to work or school, or embark on a new career. The program serves individuals from onset of injury through their lifetime.

Locomotor retraining strategies are utilized in conjunction with a variety of therapeutic interventions and clinical diagnostic assessments. Based on each individual patient’s recovery specialized mobilization equipment designed for the SCI patient which include the use of the Lokomat®, a robot-assisted walking therapy, may be an important part of treatment.

The Sheerr Gait and Motion Analysis Lab helps physicians identify the precise causes of ambulation problems in patients with spinal cord injuries or other neuromuscular or orthopaedic problems.

The Motor Control Analysis Lab analyzes arm and hand muscle function and dexterity.

The Electrodiagnostic Center provides a battery of tests that measure the central and peripheral nervous systems. These tests differentiate healthy from malfunctioning nerve pathways and can also help gauge a patient’s potential to benefit from rehabilitation. The Center diagnoses nervous system disorders, locates sites of peripheral nerve damage and evaluates a patient’s condition after treatment or surgery.

Neuro-orthopaedic Program offers hope to patients with problems that have often proved daunting to physicians e.g. gait disorders, upper extremity problems and bone growth disorders.

Spasticity management and the intrathecal baclofen pump trial and implant program are an integral part of our comprehensive services. Patients who have had ongoing uncontrolled spasticity which interferes with their daily function may be appropriate candidates for enrollment.

The Spinal Cord Injury Lifetime Follow-up Program assists the SCI patient and their families in resolving the many medical, social and psychological issues that will arise throughout a lifetime. Routine SCI physiatry and clinical specialist outpatient evaluations are offered to assist both the patient and family meet the challenges of living with a disability
- Our weekly support group and peer mentoring program offered during both inpatient and outpatient programming will help individuals cope with the various forms of stress that can often result from living with a spinal cord injury.
Our CARF accredited Spinal Cord System of Care Program is coordinated from our main campus in Elkins Park, PA.
Outpatient therapy treatment is offered at all of MossRehab's 10 outpatient locations.
