moss_100a.gif The Lucien Moss Home began caring for tuberculosis patients in 1900. Almost immediately, its 24 beds were filled. Tents (and later temporary structures) were built to provide additional beds.

Just 20 years after opening, the Lucien Moss Home reevaluated its mission of caring for tuberculosis patients and looked toward helping victims of cancer, paralysis and other incurable afflictions. At that time, medical practitioners did not view diseases such as cancer, arthritis and diabetes as ones that could ever be cured. Therefore, less active medical attention was required, and the Lucien Moss Home became an institution managed by laymen.
