Live Music Program and Screening of Documentary Film will Entertain and Inspire

Philadelphia, PA, May 21, 2008 ─ In recognition of June being National Aphasia Awareness Month, Albert Einstein Healthcare Network’s Voices of MossRehab Aphasia Center will host the special education program ─ “A Stroke of Genius.” The event, being held at the Merion Tribute House (625 Hazelhurst Avenue, Merion Station) on Sunday, June 1 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., will feature a live concert by composer and recording artist Marc Black.

Mr. Black’s concert will present songs from his CD “A Stroke of Genius.” Dan Mountain, a friend of Black, wrote powerful poetry about his recovery from a near-fatal stroke, which Black set to music and recorded with the help of Art Garfunkel, John Sebastian, the Dixie Hummingbirds, and others. In addition, an inspiring film about the Mountain family’s experience that was produced by Black and Mountain will be shown. For more information on obtaining tickets, please contact Fran Gross at 215-456-9390.

More than 20,000 people in the Delaware Valley live with aphasia, a communication disorder resulting from stroke or traumatic brain injury. Because aphasia can affect the ability to speak, read, write and understand normal conversation, individuals with aphasia often feel isolated and handicapped.

In order to offer assistance to people with this disorder, MossRehab established the Aphasia Center. The center provides state-of-the-art clinical and computer therapies, educational and outreach programs and opportunities to participate in research projects. Also available are activities that provide opportunities for people with aphasia and their families to meet in an understanding and supportive environment.

Recognized as a national leader in rehabilitation, MossRehab provides high-quality, compassionate medical care for individuals with physical disabilities. MossRehab treats many types of physical disorders, including traumatic brain injuries, stroke, amputation, spasticity/impaired movement, spinal cord injuries, orothopaedic injuries, and aphasia. As a member of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, MossRehab has two main facilities – MossRehab at Elkins Park located at 60 East Township Line Road in Elkins Park, PA and MossRehab at 1200 West Tabor Road in Philadelphia. It also operates inpatient units, outpatient sites and various community programs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
