Functional Capacity Evaluation PDF Print E-mail

Functional capacity evaluations offer a summative report of functional abilities or limitations based upon a patient’s performance in a three to four functional hour test. Tests include, but are not limited to lifting, balance, dexterity, reaching and stair climbing. The functional capacity evaluation accesses a patient’s ability to perform a specific task that he or she would do at their job. This test also addresses consistency and reliability of effort.

Program Focus

A functional capacity evaluation may be performed on any person with a disabiity in which case workers, physicians, or employers want to identify the patient's abilities or limitations post injury, or for worker's compensation cases.  Insurance clearance is necessary prior to testing. The test is individualized to diagnosis; therefore any diagnosis can be tested.

Special Program Features

VerNova, Inc. equipment is used in functional capacity evaluations. It includes software that runs all variance coefficients, industrial standard percentages and averages necessary for the production of the report, as well as the graphs and tables within the report. Equipment includes electronic goniometers, pinch and hand dynamometers, force plates, etc.
