Remedial Vision Rehabilitation

Designed to treat visual-motor and cognitive-perception impairments, the remedial vision rehabilitation program uses occupation-based therapy to improve performance in important daily activities such as self-care, leisure activities, and vocational skills - improving the overall quality of life.

What We Offer

Following a physician referral for vision evaluation and treatments, patients will receive specialized functional vision screening conducted by an occupational therapist with specialty certification in remedial vision rehabilitation. A treatment plan is then customized to assist the patient in meeting his/her individual rehabilitation goals. Remedial vision rehabilitation at MossRehab might include the following:

  • Functional vision screening including assessment of visual acuity, motor fusion, eye alignment, accommodation, ocular motor skills, visual fields, and visual information processing
  • Individualized treatment plans and home exercise programs
  • Incorporation of specialized vision rehabilitation equipment
  • Integration of the Sanet Vision Integrator (SVI), a high-technology instrument designed for enhancing visual performance. Activities can be tailored to each client to work on their needs: eye movements, eye/hand coordination, visual memory, and visual/auditory integration

Who Can Benefit?

Vision rehabilitation is ideal for adolescents and adults who suffer from vision-related problems caused by a neurological event, such as: traumatic brain injury, stroke, tumors, and other related medical issues.
Visual symptoms that would benefit from vision rehabilitation include:

  • Blurred vision when looking near to far or far to near
  • Visual fatigue and/or headaches
  • Movements of words on the page when reading
  • Avoidance of reading and other close work
  • Pulling sensation around the eyes
  • Difficulties with ADLs that require sustained close work

Patients will be seen for their initial evaluation and then scheduled for treatment time. Each treatment session is one hour and typically occur twice a week for 8-10 weeks. Schedules can be modified based on patients availability and tolerance to vision rehabilitation.
