ReWalk
ReWalk is a motorized exoskeleton suit that enables people with walking impairments to stand, walk and climb stairs independently. Worn around the legs, chest and back, ReWalk is lightweight and fits closely to the body on top of everyday clothes. Crutches are used in combination with ReWalk to help the user stay balanced.
How does ReWalk work?
ReWalk contains intricate motion sensors that measure the wearer’s upper body movements and shifts in gravity. These signals are processed by an onboard computer system that moves the ReWalk’s motorized leg segments in the desired direction at the appropriate speed.
What are the proposed benefits of ReWalk?
By keeping users upright on a daily basis and exercising their paralyzed limbs, ReWalk alleviates many of the health problems associated with long-term wheelchair use. These include thinning bones, pressure sores, and problems with the urinary, respiratory, cardiovascular and digestive systems. ReWalk is also an alternative to standing devices and other orthoses.
Who can use ReWalk?
ReWalk can be used by patients with walking impairments due to spinal cord and brain injuries, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and other diseases that result in walking impairment.
Is the device approved for use in the United States?
ReWalk has been approved by the FDA for use in clinical settings. MossRehab was the exclusive clinical trial site in the U.S. and FDA approval was obtained based on MossRehab’s clinical trial outcomes. Use of ReWalk in clinical settings will allow for further investigation regarding the safety and efficacy of ReWalk, with the hope that further FDA approval will enable ReWalk to become commercially available for public use.
Someone I know has a lower limb disability. How can s/he get access to ReWalk?
We do not currently have a projected date of when ReWalk will be commercially available to individuals, however, the device will be available through MossRehab once it is. Please check back occasionally for updated information on ReWalk's availability.
Who created ReWalk?
ReWalk was designed by Argo Medical Technologies, a medical device company located in Haifa, Israel. Visit their web site to see a video of the ReWalk in action.
When will ReWalk be available for purchase?
Due to the complex nature of the clinical trials process, we are unable to estimate when the device will be available for purchase.
How much will ReWalk cost? Will my insurance cover this cost?
At this time we are unable to project the retail cost of ReWalk. We do not yet know if U.S. insurance carriers will cover the device.
