FIM Definitions and Other Information
The FIM™ Instrument
The FIM™ instrument measures patients’ function in 18 different areas such as ambulation, eating, memory, etc. The FIM™ instrument is used by rehabilitation providers to compare the functional change achieved by patients who are admitted to MossRehab with other regional and national providers.
FIM™ Change
A patients total FIM™ rating in a specific diagnostic category (such as stroke) increases from admission to discharge.
Average Length of Stay
The number of days the average patient in a specific diagnostic category stays in the hospital.
Length of Stay Efficiency
The amount of functional change per every day a patient in that specific diagnostic category is in the hospital. The higher the number the more efficient the facility is in achieving functional change for its patients.
Discharge to Community
The percentage of patients who are discharged from MossRehab to a community setting (home, boarding home). Rehabilitation providers aim to discharge a high percentage of patients back to the community and fewer to skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities and acute care hospitals.
Patient Satisfaction
The percentage of patients with in a specific diagnostic category that rates overall care as very good or good.
Region
The region is comprised of rehabilitation hospitals and rehabilitation units in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
Nation
The nation is comprised of rehabilitation hospitals and rehabilitation units throughout the United States.
