MossRehab Regional Amputee Center provides services to more persons with amputation than any other facility on the U.S. East Coast. Our knowledgeable staff has experience treating persons with all levels of amputation, including the most complex multiple-limb and/or upper-extremity individuals.

Our treatment team includes medical professionals from a variety of different disciplines, all working in coordination to provide the best care for persons with amputation.

Care is provided in various settings, depending on individual needs:

  • Inpatient Program:
Inpatient care is provided for persons requiring intensive services including medical management, nursing intervention and multiple therapies. Our facility has 147 inpatient beds to provide care and a unit dedicated to amputee care.
  • Day Hospital Program:
Patients who no longer require 24-hour nursing care or medical supervision, but will benefit from intensive therapy, are appropriate for this program. Participants receive multiple therapies throughout the day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and return home in the evenings and on the weekends. Transportation is available upon request.
  • Day Treatment Program:
This programs offers three hours of intensive therapy from multiple therapists. It is for people who are medically stable and do not require nursing care.
  • Outpatient Program:
This program allows patients to participate in individual therapy two to three times per week. Outpatient therapy is available at our multiple locations in Olney, Northeast Philadelphia, Jenkintown, PA and Allentown, PA.
  • Transitional Program:
This program is for those people who no longer require acute care but are not ready to go home after an amputation. They usually are not ready to participate in an aggressive inpatient rehabilitation program.
  • Physical medicine and rehabilitation consultation and management:
After completing their initial rehabilitation, people need lifelong counseling and care from physicians who specialize in prosthetics and amputation care. Our physicians can meet all ongoing amputation and prosthetic management needs.

Upper-Extremity Amputation Program

The primary reason for upper limb loss is trauma and the next most common cause is cancer. The level of amputation is the most important determinant of postamputation function. One of the primary goals of surgery is to save as much of the limb a possible. Saving the most distal joint possible dramatically improves the amputee's function.
